Reading

In EYFS and Key Stage 1 we teach reading through a combination of synthetic phonics and key word recognition (words which are phonetically irregular.) We use the Oxford Reading Tree scheme to support children through their individual reading. Reading material is enhanced through class reading material and termly topic books from the Wiltshire Library Service. We use Collins Big Cat fiction and non-fiction texts   to teach Guided Reading throughout the school. We encourage children of all ages to talk about books that they are enjoying to foster a love of reading. A reading record is used as a form of communication between home and school, and you will be guided by your child’s class teacher on their reading progress. A vital process in fostering a reading culture is for parents to share book and read stories to their children as well as children reading on a regular basis to their parents.
