School History

Our school was established in 1845 as a Church of England National School.

It originally stood in the High Street where today the village Post Office is located. After 160 years on this site, the school moved to a purpose-built building in 2005.

The school logo represents the legendary local hero and Captain of the militia - John Rattlebone who in 1016, alongside King Edmund Ironside, battled the Danes led by King Canute over a period of two days in the hills nearby. Badly wounded, Rattlebone is said to have valiantly fought on eventually overpowering King Canute who retreated to London. As a reward for his valour, Rattlebone was given the manor of Sherston and associated lands by the mayor
