A few words from our FSS Chair, Lauren Kiddell
"Last year, despite the loss of term five and six we had a great start to our fundraising year. A fantastic addition to the fundraising calendar with Apple week at the start of the academic year, culminating in our 'Apple Fair' where much fun was had by all enjoying apple themed games, challenges and tasty apple themed treats. Our annual quiz was as successful as ever, a few tweaks with a gin bar, a shared effort from the dads in putting together the quiz rounds and an assortment of hampers to alternatively showcase the generously donated gifts.
"Due to COVID-19, we weren’t able to continue from there, but a call to arms from Rupert and Alex Evelyn saw a few of us come together to create a virtual family show, culminating in a fantastic fundraising effort of £1,265.
"A huge thank you for all the support received from FSS committee, class reps and members. I feel very fortunate to work with such an enthusiastic and creative group of people and for this reason I already look forward to the year ahead and the time and commitments I know will be made in facing these challenging times together.
"I look forward to continue to work in partnership with Mrs Leyden and the school team in making sure we continue to support and add value for the year ahead. We have already begun to combine our thoughts and think outside the box and within Covid requirements to plan where possible for upcoming events. Spending has been agreed towards a ‘Pantomine in a box’ online sessions for all classes throughout the school. Hopefully this will help to fill the void left by the absence of nativity/class performances this year.
"This year, more than ever, I intend to make sure we work in partnership with the governors and teachers to ensure we can fulfil the needs of the school to the best of everyone’s ability."
COVID-19 and lockdown meant our fundraising year only lasted 6 months instead of 12, but we still managed to raise over £7,400!
Some of the highlights of the range of extra educational opportunities and resources we were able to fund to enhance the children's learning and development included:
Alongside the financial support the FSS provides, we work closely with the school and local groups to deliver a range of extra-curricular activities enjoyed by all year groups throughout the school year.
The FSS have already started fundraising for 2020/21 with Crab Apple picking for Tracklements, and our first Rags2 Riches collection at the end of September which raised £180. The fantastic film created by Rupert Evelyn and the Fab Family show team over the lockdown raised £1,065.
We have also agreed spending on EYFS resources, Friendship Week resources, classroom resources, Wiltshire Resources and class trips for this school year.
The Committee are now working away on the fundraising plans for the year ahead and look forward to sharing these with you very soon.
If you'd like to get involved with the FSS and help make this fundraising year our most successful yet, we'd love to hear from you. Take a look at our page to find out more about how you can make a difference.
