New Pupil Admission Form:

As part of the admissions process we need to capture a variety of data on the Admissions Registration Form all new starters receive. This includes information about your child's ethnic origin, language used at home and religion. Here's why we ask for these details:

• If the Local Authority is to achieve its aim of providing equal rights opportunities for everyone, then it needs to have some statistical basis to show how well or badly it is doing.  Information on the achievement of children from different ethnic backgrounds will help to identify any disadvantages unintentionally caused by the existing education system, and to eliminate such disadvantages in the future.
• Confidential information about an individual child, known only to the people responsible for that child’s education, can help a school to provide an education and environment to suit his or her individual needs.
• The Commission for Racial Equality, the report ‘Education for All’, and many groups involved in a multi-cultural education believe that collecting information on people’s ethnic origin is an important first step towards providing an education which takes account of cultural and religious backgrounds.  Many ethnic minority groups wish to retain their separate cultural identity while receiving equal educational opportunities.
• It is important that the parent or guardian provides this information rather than the teacher as it is what you consider your child’s ethnic origin and religion to be which really matters.
