People and Places

This term, pupils will be learning about the Geography of where we live, and through comparing it to the village of Kampong Ayer in Brunei will investigate how the physical geography of different areas can shape how humans live.

In our English lessons this term, we will learn about the key features of traditional tales, before retelling one in our own words. Children will then use the skills that they have learnt to write their own Journey Story.  

In Maths this term, we are focusing on developing a deep understanding of place value, initially with values up to 10, to build a strong mathematical foundation before we progress to addition and subtraction next term.

In our art lessons this term, pupils will learn about and create their own self-portraits, beginning by studying the self-portraits of other artists and developing their own sketching and painting skills, before working to create their own self portraits.

Frozen!

This term, in Science and Geography we will be studying Seasonal Changes and learning about how the weather affects how and where we live. 

In our English lessons, we will begin by studying stories from other cultures, before moving on to study poetry and the story of the Nativity as we approach the Christmas break.

In Maths this term, we will be building fluency with addition and subtraction with values to 10, before moving on to learning about shape and pattern. 

In DT this term, we have the very exciting project of constructing a moving minibeast toy! Children will learn about the design process, from creating design specifications, selecting materials and creating prototypes through to testing and refining their design to create their final product. 

Flashes, Flames and Fiery Dragons

This term we will learn about the Great Fire of London.  The children will discover why we know so much about the Great Fire, investigating artwork from the time as well as a number of historical sources. In English we'll be talking about the legend of St George and the Dragon and we'll have a go at creating a new version of the story ourselves. 

In Maths this term we will further develop our foundational maths skills by studying place value, addition and subtraction with larger values, building upon and practising applying the learning of the past two terms, including learning new strategies to represent and solve problems with larger values.

All Creatures Great and Small

This term we will be looking at Antarctica in our Geography unit 'Why don't penguins need to fly?'. We'll look at the ways penguins adapt to survive in Earth's harshest environment and finding out what makes Antarctica unique. We'll also look at how a variety of animals adapt to different habitats around the world and find out about these environments. In English we will be reading 'Superworm' by Julia Donaldson and creating our own animal narrative. 

In Maths this term we will continue our learning of place value up to 50, before moving on to learning about measurement in the form of length, height, mass and volume. Pupils will learn about and compare the different standard units of measure for length, mass and capacity. They will also learn how to take their own measurements and how to interpret a variety of scales.

History Makers

The children will learn about the importance of key figures throughout History and think about what made them ‘History Makers’.  In English we'll be writing a simple report about famous historical people and in Music we'll be learning about Charlie Chaplin.

In Maths this term we will begin looking at multiplication, division and fractions, utilising the number sense and place value knowledge that pupils have developed throughout the year. 

What a Wonderful World

The children will learn about the world we live in, including recapping the continents and seas, as well as touching upon global warming and thinking about how we can help our world . In Art we will be looking at ‘Nature’s Artist’ Andy Goldsworthy and having a go at creating Art in a similar style. 

In Maths this term, we will be covering a variety of areas, including position and direction, money, time, and place value up to 100.
