Term 1

Rainforests

This term our topic is Rainforests. In Geography, we will be comparing climates, rainfall and temperatures and exploring some of the wettest and driest places on the planet. Our English writing will be linked to our rainforests topic, and we will be using ambitious and descriptive language. As part of our topic and English we will be visiting Longleat to learn more about animals, their habitats and their adaptations. 

In Art, we will be creating papier mache insects, investigating how sculptures are made and making armatures for our sculptures before completing the papier mache and insect design. 

Term 2

Stone Age to Iron Age

Over terms 2 and 3 we will be learning about human history through the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We will explore how Stone Age man lived and answer the question; were Stone Age Men only living in caves? In the Bronze Age, we will explore monuments and the use of metal in farming equipment and weaponary as humans developed their societies and became more technological. In the Iron Age, we will understand how artefacts which have been preserved help us to understand and interpret our past and how conflicts continued to grow and develop with the advancement of weaponry and the fight for territory and sustainable farmland. 

In Art and DT, we will explore the first artworks created by Stone Age Man from cave paintings to sculpture. We will also be using sewing skills to create a simple piece of clothing for a Stone Age person. 

 

Term 3

Stone Age to Iron Age

Over terms 2 and 3 we will be learning about human history through the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Term 4

Beyond the Magic Kingdom

We will be focussing on Florida in our Geography lessons using the Magic Kingdom (Disneyworld) to explore the state and its location within the world. We will discover why Florida was so important to NASA and how the changing climate is impacting Florida's weather in extreme ways. 

In DT this term, we will be investigating the fairground. We will explore different rides, what makes them popular and why theme parks such as Disneyland/World have remained so successful before designing and building our own rides. 

Term 5

Sherston Through History

We will be learning about the history of our village from the Romans through to the Victorians. We will learn about our school symbol, Rattlebone, and why he is a local legend. 

In Art, we will be creating images inspired by Victorian art and artists. 

Term 6

Geography of Sherston

We will be learning about the history of our land, how the land use has changed and continues to change and our impact on our local area. We will explore slightly further afield in our county too, exploring how the railway impacted Wiltshire, in particular Chippenham and Swindon. 

In DT, we will be making sandwiches, using our Scienc and PSHE knowledge to build a healthy, balanced sandwich.
