Rivers
We will be learning where rivers start, how they travel to the sea and eventually join the ocean. We will be exploring the different wildlife that lives in and around rivers and areas impacted by rivers as well as the impact humans have on rivers and how our pollution can cause harm to wildlife and water.
In English, we will be writing poems inspired by rivers and dragons. Our Art, is also linked to our Rivers topic as we will be exploring different artists who create water-inspired art in different mediums and forms.
Anglo-Saxons
We will be learning about the Fall of Rome, how the Anglo Saxons arrived and changed Britain after the Romans left. We will be exploring Anglo Saxon life, religion and the impact of Christianity on Anglo Saxon culture.
In English, we will be writing a narrative inspired by Oliver Jeffers' Lost and Found. In DT we will be making kites and exploring the best materials during the design process.
Vikings
We will be learning about the Vikings and their conflict with the Anglo-Saxons. We will be exploring the impact of the Vikings on Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and the conflict between Guthrum and King Alfred.
In DT, we will be exploring the process of bread making from start to end. We will be tasting different breads, learning about the impact of yeast and the importance of allowing bread to rise.
Maps
We will be learning how to read and use maps. We will be investigating and comparing maps from different periods and from around the world. Children will also explore different map symbols and their meanings.
In English, we will be writing a story inspired by The Wild Robot and creating our own version.
