Phonics and Spelling
In EYFS and Year 1 the children learn to spell using phonics, as well as learning key words that are common but don't often follow a simple spelling pattern (sometimes called tricky words or Common Exception Words). We use the DFE approved Systematic Synthetic Phonics programme: 'Twinkl Phonics'. Click on the link below for more information. We adapt this scheme to suit our children's learning styles and aim to engage them and excite them during the teaching of phonics.
From Years 2 to 6 the children follow the No Nonsense Spelling scheme. In year 2 this crosses over with level 6 of Twinkl Phonics and from years 3 - 6 it is a specific spelling scheme to teach children various key spelling patterns and rules.
