THE GOVERNING BOARD

All members of the Governing board can be contacted via the School Office

Belinda Robinson

Chair of Governors (Appointed by GB/board)

Member of Finance and Premises Committee

Link Governor for Communications, Community, Website and GDPR

14/11/18-13/11/22

I have been a Parent Governor at the School since 2018 and was elected Chair of Governors in September 2020. I have one child at the school and have always felt very lucky to have such a good and well supported school on our doorstep so became a governor in the hope that I could bring a positive contribution to the school and its future.  I have found being a governor very rewarding and it has given me great insight into the challenges schools are facing and the dedication and commitment that goes into providing our children with the highest level of education and care.

I own and run an on-line retail business where I oversee all areas including Finance, Marketing, Customer Service and Compliance. My strategic, finance and leadership skills equip me to enable and contribute to all areas of Governance to ensure the successful development of the school.

Vice Chair

Co-opted Governor Appointed by GB/board

Chair of Teaching, Learning & Staffing Committee

30/01/20-29/01/24

(Associate Governor until 23/09/20)

I have lived in Sherston for over 30 years and my 3 children attended both Sherston and Malmesbury Schools. I can bring some experience to the Governor role, as I was initially a governor at Sherston from 1996 to 2003 as Vice-Chair for much of the period, involved in plans for school extensions and then in the new building, which we enjoy today. I then became a governor at Malmesbury School from 2003 to 2015 with periods of being Vice-Chair and Chairman of the Curriculum Committee. I was on the panel that appointed a very successful headteacher, who achieved an outstanding OFSTED inspection for Malmesbury. He is now CEO of the Athelstan Trust, that currently runs 4 secondary schools. I’m very community minded as I’m on Sherston Parish Council, I’m secretary of Sustainable Sherston and on the steering committee of Malmesbury Climate Action Network. I’m also a Member of the Athelstan Trust, which is the top tier of the trust governance structure.

With all the above commitments, it's just as well that I only work part-time these days, as a Senior Project Manager in software development for an insurance company.

Gary Muchmore

Co-opted Governor Appointed by GB/board

Chair of Finance and Premises Committee

02/12/20 - 01/12/22
My family relocated to Sherston 14 years ago from Hertfordshire, my daughter attended Sherston school and my wifeworked as a TA and MDSA at the school for a number of years.

I retired last year having spent 40 years working in the Software industry including 5 years at IBM, leading a US start-up in Connecticut and Massuchusetts, and more recently holding numerous CEO/MD positions with technology businesses throughout the UK

In the absence of any work commitments I am keen to contribute to our community and whilst I have limited knowledge of the academic world I hope my commercial/business experience can be of benefit to the school in these very challenging times.

Co-opted Governor Appointed by GB/board

Member of Teaching, Learning & Staffing Committee

Governor for Child Protection

19/05/16-19/05/18

19/5/18 -19/5/20

19/5/20-19/5/22

I have been a Governor at Sherston CofE Primary school since May 2016.

I am a retired primary school head teacher, having spent almost twenty five years as head of a village school in Northern Ireland.  Amongst other things, my role included being Designated Safeguarding Lead for my school, and I now act as the link governor for Safeguarding in Sherston. More recently I have taken on the role as Wellbeing Link governor in school.  Since being a governor I have completed training in Safeguarding, Safer Recruitment and Prevent, and I am a member of the Teaching and Learning Committee.

My reason for joining the board of governors was that I wanted to support the village school and maintain an active involvement in primary education.

I am married and have two grown-up daughters and four grandchildren

Ailsa Clark

Co-opted Governor Appointed by GB/board

Member of Teaching, Learning and Staffing Committee

SEND Governor, Pupil Premium Governor

17/05/17 – 16/05/19

15/5/19-15/5/2021

In May 2017 I became the governor for SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) and Pupil Premium, a grant provided to decrease the attainment gap for disadvantaged children. As lead SEND governor, I champion the issue of Special Educational Needs and Disability within the work of the governing board and have specific oversight of the school's arrangements for Special Educational Needs and Disability. As governor for Pupil Premium, I support, challenge, monitor and evaluate the work of the school in raising the attainment and progress of children who are eligible for the pupil premium grant. I have a good working relationship with Tanya Haigh, the inclusion co-ordinator, and we meet on a termly basis so that I can monitor the implementation of the SEND policy and develop a clear and accurate understanding of the provision made for pupils with SEND and those eligible for the pupil premium grant. During our meetings I offer constructive challenge as well as support so that I can be assured the children with SEND as well as those who are eligible for the pupil premium grant are achieving, attaining and progressing well.

I am a Chartered Psychologist specialising in educational and child psychology and work part time for Bristol Council and South Gloucestershire Council. My main role is to provide the psychological contribution to Education and Health Care Needs Assessments. Previously I have taught modern foreign languages at secondary level and English at all levels to speakers of other languages. I have three children at the school and feel passionate about promoting educational and social inclusion for all children.

Revd Adam Beaumont

Foundation Governor Ex Officio

Member of Teaching, Learning and Staffing Committee

02/12/2020 ex officio

I am Rector of the Gauzebrook Group of Churches which includes Sherston as well as seven neighbouring parishes. Prior to ordination I was a Science Teacher and Head of Year at a large Secondary School and was also a Staff Governor during that time. I have since governed at a residential school for KS2 - KS4 boys with special social and emotional and mental health needs. Most recently I have served as Chair of Governors to another primary school in Wiltshire, and I am a currently a member of the Diocesan Board of Education. Over the past 20 years I have therefore been involved in education at all levels from the coal face right up to the higher levels of policy and strategic thinking.

I bring this wide-ranging experience to the Board of Governors, particularly in supporting the leadership of teaching and learning and in building ethos and community in a school. As a Foundation governor I will also have a particular interest in supporting the school in realising its vision to 'learn, care and achieve together' through the Christian values we share. Oh yes - and I just love working with young people when I get the chance - they’re amazing aren’t they!

James Harmer

Local Authority Governor

Member of the Finance and Premises Committee

30/01/20-30/01/24

I have been a Governor at the School since the start of 2020 and I am a member of the Finance and Premises Committee.  I live in the village and, although I have no children myself, I wanted to make a positive contribution to the school. With what 2020 has thrown at the school, it has been a great insight into the challenges schools are facing and the effort that our teaching professionals do in the education of children.

I am Finance Director for a Environmental Consultancy business and I hope to be able to use my skills to provide insight and oversight into how the school can deliver for the children of Sherston. I also play for and am Club Secretary at our local cricket club, Sherston Magna Cricket Club, and have seen first hand how sport can make a positive difference to children’s lives.

Education changes lives and a good education improves life chances of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in our society. I want to work as a governor with our amazing staff to give all our children the best possible life chances. I have already contributed to the Foundations and Ethos Committee.

Before working in the Gauzebrook Group as a Rural Schools and Churches Worker I worked with schools and social services across Oxfordshire as a Senior Home School Link Worker, supporting families in need and ensuring children had access to education. I have also been a partner in a national publishing business.
