Sherston School Council

We are delighted to introduce our new School Council for the 2023/24 Academic Year.

At Sherston we believe in empowering those we work with. This includes the children. When making a decision, the first thing we must consider is the impact it will have on the children. There are, however, a number of decisions that the children can make themselves. The School Council is a voice for the children of Sherston School. Members take an active role in a number of decisions around the school including what menu will be chosen for the term, what charities we want to support, the clubs we offer and how to spend certain aspects of the school budget.

Two School Councillors are elected from each class. The elections take place after candidates have been given time to prepare, practise and deliver a speech. Councillors meet regularly with the headteacher to discuss key issues that arise and help inform any decisions that need to be made. This is an opportunity for them to share their views and speak openly about how to further improve the school. Often the children are tasked with investigating matters with their peers, conducting research and also presenting the outcomes of meetings to the school community in Collective Worship.
